Programs and services

Our standard services are available to every participant, and are included in the daily fee. Some programs, such as live music performances, guest speakers and art classes conducted by professional art instructors, occur anywhere from from twice a week to a few times per month, as the schedules of our volunteers can vary.

Visit our Facebook page for this month's calendar of events.

Our standard services include:

Mental Stimulation: We feature live entertainment including musical groups, choirs, and solo performers on piano, guitar and other instruments. We also have regular guest speakers who present travelogues along with videos or slide shows.

Music Therapy: Music is an important part of our day. It's not only therapeutic for our participants, reawakening old memories and feelings; it's also a whole lot of fun for everyone. We have two music teachers from nearby junior colleges who volunteer twice a week to come in and play favorite tunes on our piano for all to enjoy and sing along.

In addition, we have a volunteer music therapist come in twice a week to play golden oldies songs on our home theater system and lead our particitants in some gentle dancing. More on music therapy.

Arts and Crafts: Twice a week we have wonderful volunteer art instructors from local community colleges come in and organize fun and stimulating arts & crafts projects. With a room full of art supplies, our participants can engage in group activities with the instructor, or pursue their own personal projects if they desire.

Health Monitoring: Our professional staff tends to the basic medical needs of our participants, checking and recording blood pressure, weight and body temperature, as well as administering medications at the prescribed times.

Physical Activities: Our professional instructor guides our participants in daily exercises of gentle stretches, deep breathing, chair yoga and slow walks to the extent of each person’s ability and desire. These activities help keep their bodies limber and improve their circulation. We encourage but never push our participants to engage in these activities.

Meals and Snacks: Each day we serve a full breakfast and a filling and nutritious lunch with dessert. We also provide a tasty mid-afternoon snack. We are careful to avoid overly sugary foods which can spike insulin levels.

Personal Care: We assist in the activities of daily living. With dignity and respect we will help your loved one with meals, baths, mobility, using the bathroom, dealing with incontinence and transferring to and from a wheelchair.

Socializing with Peers and Staff: Long term memory in seniors is often stronger than short term memory. We encourage and facilitate conversations with our participants in any of our cozy nooks and also with a larger group.

Intergenerational Activities: Our community is made richer when old and young interact. We have schools groups and youth organizations such as choirs, drama clubs and dance groups from grade school to high school age come in to give music and dance recitals and perform plays.

We also have high school and college student volunteers visit to help with activities and spend time with our participants.

In addition, we have a "baby day" several times a month, when mothers bring in their babies for our participants to meet with and take turns holding. This is a very popular program which leaves everyone smiling.

Games: Our staff organizes and oversees game play on a regular basis. These include: Board games like Monopoly, Uno, Scrabble, Backgammon, Pictionary and others. Bingo and theme-bingo are popular.

We also organize card games like Hearts, Spades, Gin and others. Chess and Checkers are available. We have several variations of Solitaire and other games and puzzles on the computers in our game room. We also furnish crossword puzzles, enlarged for easy reading.

BrainHQ Brain Fitness Program: BrainHQ is a computer-based, scientifically validated program designed to improve memory processing, cognitive skills and communication in mature adults. More on BrainHQ.

Senior Care Advocate Services: We provide a free consultation with a Senior Care Advocate on the best living choice for your loved one.
